Yobe police arrest suspected kidnapper, rescue abducted schoolboy

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued a victim, Abdullahi Hassan.

 

 

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 18, 2024, said the suspect, Yusuf Ali, kidnapped the minor in Damaturu and demanded N1.5m ransom from his family.

 

 

According to the PPRO, detectives traced the suspect to the Kara area of Darazo in Bauchi State where he was holding the victim hostage.

 

“The Yobe State Police Command has successfully cracked down on a kidnapping syndicate, arresting the prime suspect, 43-year-old Yusuf Ali from 250 Housing Estate, Damaturu,” the statement read. 

 

"On October 14, 2024, at about 1415 hrs, Mallam Hassan reported to the State Intelligent Department (SID) that his son, Abdullahi Hassan, had gone missing after school hours on October 13, 2024, at 17:15 hrs. 

 

"Despite efforts to locate him, his whereabouts remained unknown until the abductor demanded N1.5 million for his release via phone call.

 

"Detectives swiftly coordinated intelligence-led operations, tracing the victim to a secured room in Kara Area, Darazo, Bauchi State. The prime suspect was apprehended while holding the victim hostage.

 

"The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, reiterated the command's commitment to combating crime and praised personnel efforts in ensuring the successful rescue and arrest.

 

"To safeguard your children against criminal elements after school:

- Educate Your Children on Basic Safety Protocols: Teach them to identify trusted adults and report suspicious activities.

- Avoid Walking Alone: Encourage your children to use the buddy system.

- Stay in Well-Lit Areas: Remind them to avoid isolated or dark areas.
