In a move aimed at easing travel costs for Nigerians during the holiday season, Aero Contractors, Nigeria’s oldest aviation company, has announced a minimum fare of N80,000 for local flights.

The airline’s Managing Director, Ado Sanusi, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing. He explained that the initiative, which applies to all Aero routes, is part of the company’s effort to support Nigerians and promote affordable air travel during the Christmas period.

“This is our way of giving back to our customers in the spirit of Christmas,” Sanusi stated. “We understand the economic hardships and high ticket prices Nigerians face, so we’ve introduced pocket-friendly Christmas prices to ensure families can reunite without undue financial strain.”

As of Tuesday, a one-way economy ticket on Aero from Lagos to Abuja cost N99,643, with business-class fares pegged at N189,167. The new discounted fares, which start at N80,000, will run until January 2025.

Sanusi assured that the fare reduction would not compromise the company’s profitability or reliability. He noted that Aero’s current fleet of three aircraft is sufficient to handle operations during the festive period.

“We have studied the country’s economic situation and structured this initiative to remain sustainable while supporting our customers,” he added.

The airline’s head also encouraged other industry players to adopt similar initiatives to ease the burden on travelers during the holidays.

Aero Contractors’ announcement has sparked widespread interest, with many Nigerians hailing the gesture as a much-needed relief in challenging economic times. The fare reduction is expected to boost domestic travel during one of the busiest seasons of the year.
